Visit to the Wake of Former President Corazon C. Aquino

rtvm.gov.ph Manila Cathedral 05 August 2009 Straight from her arrival from the United States, President Arroyo and some members of her Cabinet went directly to Manila Cathedral to pay their last respects to former President Corazon Aquino before the scheduled burial today (Wednesday) at the Manila Memorial Park. President Arroyo cut short her US trip to be able to visit the wake of the former leader. She was politely received by Sen. Benigno Noynoy Aquino III and stayed on for at least 10 minutes to offer a short prayer and also view the remains of the nations peace advocate and icon of democracy. Cory Aquino led the nation in a peaceful EDSA People Power revolution in 1986 and ended the regime of Ferdinand Marcos. She died early morning of August 1 at the Makati Medical Center from cardio respiratory arrest, complications brought about by her advanced colon cancer.
